May/June 2025

Hopefully by now we have received some much needed rain and it’s feeling a bit like winter is approaching? With the shorter days and cooler weather it becomes more difficult to find the time to keep active. This is where we all need to be a bit more organised and adaptable so we can keep moving and have time to exercise. It’s easy to make excuses not to go outside but there are many ways to get our bodies moving and our heart pumping. The busier life gets the more we need to exercise to help balance our stress.

Exercise is important for our cardiovascular health, our metabolism, our mental health, our sleep quality and our waistlines! While the recommendations suggest 10,000 steps/day, (which is an arbitrary figure...I'm sure it sounded good at the time?) two strength and conditioning sessions/week and exercise 2-3 times/week which raises our heart rate to 70-80% of our maximum capacity, this is very difficult to achieve unless you have time.

It's a catch 22, if you prioritise exercise in your routine you will cope better with the busyness of life in all of the ways mentioned above but you'll have less time, which makes life busier! Try to incorporate more incidental exercise into your life - park further away, get off the bus/train earlier, dance while you hang out the washing or while brushing your teeth...every little bit helps!

MarionCC will be less affected by public holidays in May and June, with only Tracey and Lydia attending an interstate seminar each towards the end of May and early June. Of course we will be closed for the King’s Birthday Monday but otherwise our hours will be closer to normal.

Dr John Kelly (presenter) and newly appointed Gonstead Fellow, Dr Lucas Karayannis at the Australian Gonstead Seminar in Darling Harbour, Sydney in May.
