This Newsletter finds us in the middle of Winter...brr! Hopefully you have managed to stay well over the past few weeks and this continues during the cooler period ahead. Surprisingly, your ability to stay well and fight off viruses and germs is linked to your gut health. There are more bacterial cells in your body than actual human cells! The make-up of these families of bacteria and the balance between them have direct effects on your immunity, your digestion and elimination, your mental health, what foods you crave, how your bones are being built and remodeled, your levels of cholesterol, your skin and other endothelial health....the list is endless!!

You have a direct impact on the composition of your microbiome by the food choices you make. The healthier your choices are, the more diverse your bacteria are...and this in turn helps you to eat healthier. If your choices are unhealthy then your bacteria become unhealthy and unbalanced and the more unhealthy you become. Even worse this drives you to crave more unhealthy choices...uggh!

We're sure that you've heard about taking probiotics to help your bacteria to become more healthy and balanced - for instance after taking antibiotics (which help you to fight off bad bacteria but unfortunately knock out lots of good bacteria in the process).

There are now lots of different strains of probiotics available...for lots of different conditions. There's been years of research showing that probiotics help with restoring good gut flora, restoring better bowel movements and improving your immune system. This has gradually broadened to other systems of the body in recent years.

In April we became aware of quite specific strains for all sorts of conditions. Probiotics that significantly reduce cholesterol, improve osteoporosis, impact mental health conditions, aid in prenatal health and many more. Look out for our education sheet for more details with references. We are already trying some of these new strains to help with specific conditions. Health comes from within us...not from medicinal drugs. Watch this space!

Rugged up with waterproofs and thermals, braving the wet, wintery day to walk around Mackenzie Falls, Grampians National Park.
